Local Commitment

Home Game in the Grid Area

50Hertz is cosmopolitan and, at the same time, has its feet on the ground. We are at home here. This applies to our Grid Neighbourhood in the heart of Berlin, as well as the regional centres in the east and north of Germany.

We get involved in the area surrounding our Berlin headquarters, in the spirit of good corporate citizenship. As a good neighbour 50Hertz makes an active contribution to attractively shaping the new Europacity living and working quarters. The “Energiebündel” daycare centre not only provides space for the children of 50Hertz employees but also for children from the surrounding area. In the summer of 2017, 50Hertz, together with its neighbour, the “Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin” invited young graduates of art academies in our grid area to present their work in our “Netzquartier”. The “Rundgang 50Hertz” exhibition showed outstanding works by the young artists and offered the young talents a platform to launch the professional careers and make valuable contacts. In 2018, we are continuing this cooperation with Hamburger Bahnhof.

Corporate Citizenship

Imparting specific knowledge to children and young people on the subject of the energy transition is close to our hearts. 50Hertz and the “Unabhängiges Institut für Umweltfragen e. V.” (UfU) have therefore jointly developed an interactive exhibition, “Energie gemeinsam wenden” (Turning energy around together), which is used at various locations in the grid area. It playfully demonstrates to fifth and sixth grade pupils just how multifaceted the energy transition is. The interactive exhibition was awarded a prize by the German UNESCO Commission as a project of the UN Decade of “Education for Sustainable Development”. In 2017, around 850 pupils visited the interactive exhibitions.

In its grid area, 50Hertz funds selected projects that make our socioculture landscape even more multifaceted and eventful. In the context of the renowned “Artist in Residence” programme series at Konzerthaus Berlin, in 2017 we supported the organist Cameron Carpenter. The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Music Festival also values us as a reliable partner.

In 2017, 50Hertz got involved time and time again in numerous initiatives, associations and organisations. These included, among other things, the “Rennsteig Autumn Run” in the Thuringian Forest, DRK Kreisverband Güstrow, Heimatverein Röhrsdorf and Fischereiwirtschaft Rostock. We supported the young volleyball talents of VFB 91 Suhl e. V. as well as the young biathletes of SV Schorfheide Groß Schönebeck e. V.
