Sustainability Report 2016 Our Responsibility

Strategy and Management

We at 50Hertz are committed to responsible corporate management that considers social interests. This is expressed in our vision: “A successful energy transition – for a sustainable world.” The task we have set for ourselves is to make the energy transition happen. We have set five strategic goals for our Company to help us fulfil that task in the best possible way. We want to achieve a competitive result, further improve our efficiency, continue to foster our value-based corporate culture, expand our grids to meet demand and maintain the highest possible level of security of supply.

50Hertz Top Targets and Strategic Directions

Strategy

We have formulated our commitment to responsible corporate management in our Company charter. In it, we have set down our intention to comply with the ten principles of the UN Global Compact with regard to human rights, work standards, environmental protec-tion and the fight against corruption. In April 2017, we joined this global values alliance and are also active in the German Global Compact Network. Our employees are provided with Company documentation containing all applicable guidelines, directives and manuals, work instructions, process handbooks and Company agreements.

Management

The 50Hertz Executive Board consists of four members: Boris Schucht (Chief Executive Officer), Dr Dirk Biermann (Chief Markets and System Operations Officer), Dr Frank Golletz (Chief Technical Officer) and Marco Nix (Chief Financial Officer). Our Chief Human Re-sources Officer Dr Katharina Herrmann rounds out the extended executive team. Our management aims to continuously expand the topic of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) in the Company and to systematically develop programmes, measures, goals and indi-cators for measuring our performance. Under overall responsibility of Marco Nix, the Corporate Development department has defined a sustainability concept and a measures roadmap, while the Communications/Public Affairs department continues to define the reporting processes.

Materiality

We have examined the essential economic, ecological and social impact of our business activities. We conducted our materiality analysis according to the G4 Guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) on sustainability reporting. The general aspects listed there were translated into topics that are relevant for 50Hertz (e.g. security of supply), and aligned with the interests of our stakeholders by means of benchmarks, peer group reports and employee surveys. Our stakeholders include our partners, the public, NGOs, politics, regulatory agencies, investors, the media, our customers, our suppliers and our staff.

The materiality analysis was developed by employees from all relevant business departments and subsequently validated by the re-sponsible managers at 50Hertz. They approved the essential topic areas that are the basis of our 2016 report. We plan to conduct a comprehensive survey of our external stakeholders in the summer of 2017 in order to systematically develop our materiality analysis and our sustainability management.
