Combined Grid Solution

In October 2020, 50Hertz Transmission GmbH and Danish grid operator Energinet inaugurated the world’s first hybrid offshore interconnector, the Kriegers Flak Combined Grid Solution (KF - CGS). The CGS connects Germany and Denmark to each other via an interconnector which is also linked to several wind farms in the Baltic Sea. As a result, the interconnector can transmit offshore wind power to either country and can also be used for cross-border electricity trading.

40 guests took part in the inauguration ceremony (which was organised with appropriate social distancing measures), whilst over 1,000 people watched the event digitally. They were able to watch the speeches delivered by the German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Peter Altmaier; the Danish Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Dan Jørgensen; and the EU Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson.
