Sustainability Report/Sustainability 2019/Occupational health and safety/Management approach

Management approach

GRI 403-1, GRI Sector disclosure LA6 OHS

Occupational health and safety and injury and illness prevention are integrated into our corporate strategy and performed by all employees as they go about their daily business. Every employee is instructed on how to be mindful of hazards, report them immediately and submit suggestions for promoting ongoing health and safety working conditions. In the financial year, occupational health and safety were once again one of the key projects in 50Hertz’s business plan.

The "gib8" campaign launched in 2018 was continued in order to further sensitize employees and suppliers of 50Hertz to occupational health and safety issues. As part of the campaign, objectives were expanded and a set of measures with rules of conduct for a safetyculture was implemented.

Once a year, an occupational safetycompetition is also held to further brief and motivate the workforce. This takes into account the accident figures of the individual sitesfrom the previous year, and prior knowledge of occupational safety isreviewed and anchored from a practical perspective that varies eachyear.

The personal protective equipment (PPE) worn by workers is always updated and new PPE is wear-tested and the catalogue is amended in line with the respective requirements.

More about our measures in the area of occupational health and safety here in the employees section and on our website.

Safety toolkit with group-wide safety standards "We are all safety Leaders"

The Elia Group wants to play a pioneering role in the European energy transition and also be a leader in occupational safety. Therefore, safety is always a top priority. It is our common goal that all our employees and contractors return home safe and healthy every day. That's why we continuously invest in the safety of our plants and working methods as well as in our safety culture. With our initiatives 'Go for Zero' in Belgium and 'gib8' in Germany, we have already been on the right track for a long time. Now we are going one step further with the Elia Group Safety Toolkit.
