50Hertz offers its employees a family-friendly work environment and  a healthy work-life balance. A company agreement is in place which aims to improve the work-life balance of mothers and fathers and support them with their childcare needs. It outlines the company’s policy on issues relating to parental leave, support services, flexible working hours, special holidays and sabbaticals as well as career advancement. The 50Hertz headquarters also house a daycare centre for the children of employees, which is also open to children from the local neighbourhood. In addition, a parent-child office exists to address short-term childcare needs during working hours if necessary. Through the ‘Flexi-Compass’ initiative, 50Hertz job advertisements provide job applicants with information about possible part-time and flexitime positions. Employees who occupy such positions are given more flexibility with regard to the way they can organise their working hours (and the places they work from), so supporting them to better be able to manage their personal and professional responsibilities. The relevant corporate principles are provided in the guideline on remote working which was converted into a policy on “remote working” during the reporting year. During the COVID-19 pandemic, parents who were affected by the closure of schools and daycare centres were given suitable working time arrangement to enable them to care for their children at home.

Along with the General Works Council and the Industrial Mining, Chemicals and Energy Union (Industriegewerkschaft Bergbau, Chemie, Energie or IG BCE) we established an agreement relating to fostering and maintaining the employability of our staff. This agreement provides a basis for staff policies that will help us face the challenges associated with demographic change. The goal of the agreement is to ensure that employees are able to carry out their work without any limitations until they reach retirement.
